Description

This workshop is a parallel session of the eHealth Week to be held on 10 May in Budapest, Hungary. This session will showcase the role of the regions in further deploying personal e-health solutions, with a focus on actions to manage the chronic pathologies that require the most resources in Europe: diabetes, cardio-vascular diseases and obstructive pulmonary disease.

A selection of regional examples will illustrate how and why regions are using telemedicine for chronic disease management. This will be followed by a panel of key stakeholders (patients, the industry and regional decision-makers) to discuss how we can build on current experience in the regions and further facilitate cooperation between the different partners.

The aim of this session is to identify the steps that need to be taken to link the various regional initiatives across Europe today and to succeed in dropping the ‘e’ from ‘e-health’. Key questions that this session will address are:

  • Why telemedicine for chronic diseases?
  • How does it work?
  • If telemedicine is such an efficient tool when combating chronic diseases, why isn’t it deployed in all regions?
  • What are the obstacles to its implementation?
  • Why is there no sufficient investment in these tools if the pilot projects are successful?
  • Why is there such a low take-up?
  • How can we increase uptake and spread deployment across Europe?
  • What do regions need to achieve this?
  • How can stakeholders work better together to achieve widespread deployment?
  • What is needed in order to increase the users’ and stakeholders’ acceptance?
  • How can we overcome the constraints to pave the way forward?

Registration for this session is compulsory.
